Apply to be an ILLUMINATE artist

ILLUMINATE is seeking individuals and groups from the art and technology sectors to create and/or display installations using light as their medium. Think BIG! (Projection Art, 3D Sculptures, Glowing Performance Art, Augmented Reality). ILLUMINATE’s headquarters will be at Library Square in 2022, the surrounding architecture is the canvas.

About:

ILLUMINATE is a Light Art & Creative Technology Festival in Downtown SLC, the first of its kind in the region. This free event, produced by the Utah Arts Alliance, invites the community to explore our city in a whole new light, by highlighting our history, culture and community using light, art and technology.

Festival Dates and Hours:

November 11 and 12, 2022

Dusk to 11 pm (indoor activities may open earlier and some installations may be displayed until midnight)

Theme:

The 2022 theme is Mother Nature, a look at environmentalism from the ecofeminism lens. We will explore local issues, like the diminishing Great Salt Lake and global themes of healing and change. The theme is open to the interpretation of the artists submitting to present. We look forward to seeing the stories you want to tell.

Location:

Activities and installations will be centered at Library Square. There are three specific areas we want to activate (sculpture garden, amphitheater, archway and exterior pillar). There are many other spaces with flat surfaces for sculptural pieces as well. We have some projection equipment available. Projections onto outdoor walls will be permitted.

Timeline:

Submissions due: Monday, August 30 at 11:59 pm

Artists selected and notified: September 15

Installation: November 11 and 12

Removal: November 13 and 14

Existing and new installations and projects will be considered. Funds are available to support selected projects. We also have a shared resource program with access to donated materials, equipment and building space. If you have questions about the event or the artist selection process, contact kim@utaharts.org.
